Lucia Portali Waters is a member of NJAWBO, a lifelong resident of Bergen County and the Owner/Artist of her privately owned faux finishing company “FABU designs by Lucia”, Lucia has been refinishing furniture since she is 13 years old and has been faux finishing for over 20 years. Her work has been published in the Bergen Record and most recently (201) The Best of Bergen Magazine.
The range of services FABU offers for, residential and commercial clients, are glazed finishes (traditional faux painting), damask designs, murals and a multitude of plaster finishes for walls that includes venetian plaster, fine European lime stone plasters, textures to create old world Tuscany, suede and metallic finishes utilizing various paints, plasters, gilding (silver leaf, gold leaf, copper leaf) etc.
Fabu also specializes in wood matching and wood graining finishes for molding, furniture, fireplaces, as well as refinishing cabinetry and countertops. There are many samples to choose from however; any finish can be duplicated from a photo or wood sample. Lucia is a regular guest speaker at local colleges for design degree programs and was honored for her work done in the children’s section of her local library. Lucia has studied with renowned artisans from Italy, New York, England, California and Canada. She is certified to use a multitude of professional products that include authentic lime plasters from Italy, specific commercial grade finishes for walls, cabinetry and countertops. “I get most of my inspiration from studying the real.
